New Year’s Day Hike to Old Inlet
January 1 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Join a park ranger for this Fire Island National Seashore tradition! This is a 4-mile round-trip hike along the ocean beach to Old Inlet, site of the breach created in 2012 by Superstorm Sandy. Learn about the forces of waves and wind that created this very special feature and see how it changed over the 10 years that it persisted. Dress for the weather and for walking on sand and bring along drinking water and a snack.
Participants will be asked to follow CDC guidelines for COVID-19. We ask the public to be our partner in recreating responsibly by adopting social distancing practices and by wearing a face covering when social distancing cannot be maintained.
