Dos Mundos presents the work of two artists of two genders who live in two cultural worlds, that of their heritage and of contemporary American life.

Sueey Gutierrez is a New York-based artist born and raised in Brooklyn. Her family is Salvadoran of Mayan descent. Her work has been exhibited in numerous galleries and public spaces.  She has been featured in Newsday and Timber Journal, a Colorado literary magazine. Her work can be found in the homes of private collectors located in New York, California, Puerto Rico, El Salvador, and Spain. In July 2021 her solo show “Divina” at Muñeca Arthouse featured 30 pieces of new work embracing her cultural and familial heritage. The exhibition examined what is beautiful, strong, and powerful in women of color.

Filiberto Perez-Mendoza, was born in Mixquiahuala, Hidalgo, Mexico. After immigrating to the US his early interest in art was reawakened as a form of meditation after working days as a day laborer. His work became a way of expressing the contradictions of his experience of life in the US, particularly the injustices suffered by so many who had been marginalized. Filiberto’s works have been shown at St. Joseph’s College, Hofstra University, Stony Brook University, Suffolk County Community College Selden and Brentwood Campus, Suffolk County’s Hispanic Heritage Day Celebration, and the Salvadoran Consulate Art Gallery.

The Patchogue Theatre for the performing Arts is located at 71 E. Main St. in Patchogue. The lobby gallery is open during box office hours and before theatre performances. For information about visiting the Lobby Gallery call the box office at 631-207-1313.
