The Patchogue Arts Council in partnership with the Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts presented the Recent Drawings of Jessica McAvoy in the Theatre Lobby Gallery. Jessica is an emerging artist who lives in Patchogue and works on Long Island. This exhibition displays a collection of bold charcoal drawings that reveals the artist’s interest in an expressive approach to form and space. Her compositions make direct reference to paintings by Spanish artist, Francisco Goya, although she alters the imagery by introducing the form of the rooster. The portrayal of fowl in these dark emotive drawings conveys an absurdity that speaks to McAvoy’s sensibility. Photos by Kelleen Guyer of Patchogue.com
