Patchogue's
Memorial
Day Parade
Patchogue's Memorial Day Parade
began at Rte. 112, marched along Main Street, then
south down South Ocean Avenue to the American Legion
Hall Post 269. The flags flew for all the branches
of the armed services and granite markers displayed
dates of the beginning and ends of many wars. A new
monument honoring the sacrifice made by Lieutenant
Michael P. Murphy of the United States Navy and
others in the war in Afghanistan has been placed
behind the large marble wall that reads "In Grateful
Tribute to Those Who Served the Cause of Freedom."
As the parade ended at this place, and the crowds
gather you can't help but notice the contrast of
Veterans in their golden years and the very young
men and women now in uniform. Many of these veterans
spoke along with the local officials, the messages
were clear, as you enjoy your friends and family
today, remember the Men and Women who gave their
lives for us, so we may live in this free and
blessed country, and pray for the once that are in
harms way. Note to see these monuments and more go
to Veterans Memorial Park at the corner of Baker
Street and South Ocean Avenue, Patchogue. Photos by
