We are sad to report that just prior to this event, the event founder and name-sake Eloise Staudinger passed away on Saturday, April 17th.

Eloise was 101 years young, her next birthday May 20th she would have been 102. She was the owner of The Colony Shop, which she started in 1946, founder of the Beautification Committee and Fundraiser, chamber member, and former member of the promotion committee. Eloise could be seen at her store everyday until last fall. She knitted baby blankets, hats, and sweaters that were sold in the store. Her motto was "Treat Your Customers Right."

The first planters on Main Street were Eloise's idea. Not only did she raise the money for them from through the Beautification Fundraiser lunch and dinner, but she also did the planting of the flowers. There were always flowers at the rear entrance of her store. She knew that the rear entrance to your business is as important as the front.

She is survived by a daughter, 2 grand-daughters, 2 great-granddaughters, a great-grandson, 4 great-great-granddaughters, and a great-great-grandson.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be given to: The Greater Patchogue Foundation, Inc. Beautification Committee, 15 North Ocean Avenue, Patchogue, NY 11772.

Eloise Staudinger is pictured (with daughter Lorice Fiala) on her 100th birthday.
