Passing of the Sash and Soda Bread Contest The
"Passing of the Sash" a time honored tradition took
place at the Brickhouse Brewery [located at 67 West
Main Street, Patchogue] on Sunday, February 28th.
Kevin McGiff was inducted as Grand Marshal of
Patchogue Village's St Patrick's Parade on Saturday,
March 27, 2010. The afternoon started with a Soda
Bread tasting contest, then a bag piper lead the new
Grand Marshal and past Grand Marshals to the front
of the room. There Pat and Lynn O'Connell last
year's Grand Marshals passed on the sash to Mr. McGiff.
In addition to the induction ceremony there was live
music by the Irish rock band Bangers and Mash, and
extraordinary artwork displayed by Christian
Nicklaus.
Tom Keegan Esq. the Greater Patchogue Foundation
Cultural Heritage committee chairman hosted the
event and looks forward to seeing everyone at the
St. Patrick’s Parade
in Patchogue, which will take place on
March 27 at 11 am.
The parade will be preceded by the “May The Road
Rise to Meet Ye” four-mile run and half-mile Fun
Run, both of which are organized by the Patchogue
Kiwanis Club.
